There are two changes that sellers of incandescent light bulbs and other types of light source need to be aware of when selling on Amazon. Incandescent light bulbs will be banned from sale on Aamzon and for other light sources there are new energy labelling requirements in the UK and Europe.
Incandescent light bulbs ban
From the 1st of October 2021, selected light bulbs, lamps and product-types such as clear incandescent light bulbs (15w, 25w, 40w, 60w, 65w, 70w, 75w, and 100w), frosted incandescent lamps and halogen lamps (except the socket types R7, G9, GU5.3, G4 and GY 6.35) will no longer be permitted for sale and all offers will be removed from Amazon stores in Europe.
Amazon say that additional information on this will be shared on the 1st of October, but our advice would be to at least try to clear any stock you have in FBA to avoid the cost of liquidations or removal orders. If you do need to dispose of stock, the FBA Liquidations programme is fee free until the 7th of September.
Amazon say that is your responsibility to ensure that the products you sell on Amazon comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Amazon reserves the right to remove products that do not comply with applicable laws. They recommend that you consult with your legal advisor if you have any questions or concerns about this change.
Light bulbs energy efficiency labelling
On the 1st of March 2021, new energy efficiency labelling information came into force across Europe and the UK.
If you sell products that are affected by the new energy labelling requirements, you should be aware of these changes. Also, you might need to familiarise yourself with the steps needed to continue listing these products on Amazon.
You should input or upload the required information when listing new products governed by the energy labelling regulation or when updating existing listings. Make sure that any energy rating information included as free text or in images complies with the new requirements too. This includes but is not limited to product titles, product bullet points and product fiches.
